If you have ever read about Padar Hiking Tours in any travel guide or
newspaper then you must have noticed that they are a very rare sight.
They are even less available now because of the people fleeing from
Syria because of the atrocities by the Islamic State group. There are
currently no commercial guides available but those that do exist will be
running expeditions all the way from Afghanistan to the Aegean.
When
you hear of a "Trek" you are referring to a trek that is going to take a
lot of time and physical effort. The "Trek" is the longest hiking trip
that is going to take a person through the mountains and back again. It
would take as much time as if you just ran.
During the
Mongol Wars of the middle ages, the Mongols tried to invade China and
the pilgrims fled to a monastery on Mt. Kailash. When the Mongols
arrived, the monks and the pilgrims hid in the mountain and kept moving
forward. The Mongols stopped and did not pursue them and soon the Mongol
army went away.
For the next eight hundred years, there
was another group of monks that lived at the foot of the mountain. When
the first missionaries arrived, they did not know that these monks were
the ones who had sheltered the pilgrims before. They took the name of
the Mount for the reason that these monks had protected the mountain for
all those years and the name stuck.
Many of the monks have
since died off, but the mountain remains untouched and is visited by
many pilgrims on the pilgrimage every year. The mountain is believed to
be cursed and haunted. Those who go on the pilgrimage in search of the
Holy Land to try to cross the mountain but fail as the mountains pass
them by.
In the early 1900's, the Japanese held a race to
see who could go over the mountain the fastest. They used men with
mechanical and hydraulic equipment to pull a slow moving car over the
mountain. The race was canceled because the mountain was cursed and it
would never yield the car.
The pilgrimage to this mountain
will always be a mystical experience and the feel of being in the midst
of nature at its most extreme will never be equaled again. For this
reason, the Padar Hiking Tour is one of the most sought after tours in
the world. Those who choose to go on the pilgrimage to know that they
are getting the best trip in the world.
